Games That Fit — GTF

A little help getting into a game.

Quick answers for your next session.

Finding a game

How do I get a quick recommendation?

Choose a main mood, your available session time and Solo, Local co-op or Multiplayer. Double-click a mood tile to make it main, or press Shift+Enter on the focused tile. GTF shows up to three games that fit the selected rules. Show 3 more lets you explore another fitting set.

What is Local co-op versus Multiplayer?

Local co-op selects shared-screen and split-screen games for people at the same computer. Multiplayer selects supported online games, including online co-op. Selecting a Steam friend switches the picker to Multiplayer and shows the crew in the sidebar. Local saving and player limits stay separate from online rules.

How do main categories and extra filters work?

Double-clicking a mood or theme makes it the main category and clears the previous selection in that row. Single-click other tiles to add or remove refinements. The main mood anchors the game type, the main theme gets the strongest theme preference, and other selections increase the score when there is supporting evidence. Extra selections do not require a perfect match. For example, a horror mood with building, open-world and survival refinements can find survival-building horror games. The Main badge and ticks show your selection. Use Any mood, Any theme or Reset filters to broaden it.

What belongs in Pixel art?

Games with explicitly documented pixel graphics, such as Stardew Valley and TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge. A game does not qualify just because it is 2D, retro, hand-drawn or set in nature. Selecting Pixel art keeps this visual-style requirement even alongside other themes.

Why are there fewer than three games?

GTF keeps your main mood, time, play-mode and stopping rules. Themes and additional moods influence ordering. It does not add unrelated games to fill the row. Try another main mood, allow a longer window or include Steam Store to broaden the choice. Unknown saving rules cannot guarantee a safely interruptible session.

Does the session time mean finishing the whole game?

No. It is the time you have for this gaming session, starting at five minutes. Short picks can be a small part of a run or a task where saving and quitting are documented; they do not promise a whole run in five minutes. A suggested window is an estimate. Game-specific goals are shown only for reviewed titles. A sourced main-story or completionist duration refers to the whole playthrough and is shown separately.

Can I hide or rearrange categories and games?

Tune my taste lets you drag thumbnail rows (or use arrow keys on the grip), untick categories to hide them and restore them later. Use the minus on a recommendation and confirm to hide that title. Cycle the thumb through Like, Love and neutral to favour related games. Preferences stay in this tab by default, or in this browser when you enable remembering, and are separated by Steam account. Hidden titles lists their names so you can restore the correct game.

Steam and your library

Do I need to accept optional cookies?

No. GTF uses security cookies when you request Steam sign-in and tab storage for your settings. Cookie settings has separate optional switches for remembering device settings and staying signed in for seven days. Both start off. You can change them in the footer; no advertising or analytics integration is included.

Do I need to sign in, and does GTF see my password?

You can browse Store recommendations without signing in. Steam sign-in is needed for your library and friends. Steam handles your password; GTF receives a verified Steam identity and requests visible account data through its server.

How is the price-estimate country chosen?

Tune my taste shows the country and source rather than a country selector. GTF uses your optional public Steam profile location when available, otherwise a connection-country estimate or the disclosed local preview default. Ordinary Steam login does not expose your billing country, and profile location can differ from it. Steam confirms your actual country, currency and price at checkout.

What does Curate library do?

It checks official Steam metadata, community tags, reviews, supported modes and release dates, then enriches available age ratings, story context, similar-game links, ratings, genres, themes and PC player limits through IGDB and builds rule-based session profiles. Public game facts are cached by Steam app ID and reused across users. Requests share a paced source budget; curation waits and resumes automatically when Steam or PCGamingWiki temporarily limits requests. You can pause without losing checked facts. It then checks public PCGamingWiki evidence through the permitted AppID lookup and revision API. Only explicit, mode-specific statements establish saving or pausing; save paths, cloud syncing and save-slot counts do not. It does not run an AI model. Missing saving, capacity or completion facts stay visible; optional personal corrections remain specific to your account and device.

Why are my games, friends or achievements missing?

Steam privacy settings and upstream availability control what GTF can access. Check your Steam profile, Game details and friends visibility, then Refresh Steam data in GTF. A visible library does not guarantee visible achievements. GTF cannot bypass private data.

What is the difference between My library only and Include Steam Store?

My library only recommends games you own; with selected friends it requires confirmed shared ownership. Include Steam Store also allows fitting games you or your friends may need to buy. Already-owned solo games do not show a purchase price. With a group, prices can appear when someone needs a copy. Purchases happen on Steam. Reviews and recent releases help rank fitting games; Prefer discounts boosts fresh, deep discounts on well-reviewed popular titles.

How accurate are download times and progress estimates?

Download times use a bounded automatic speed measurement and compressed Windows depot download bytes where Steam exposes them. Steam servers, language packs, DLC, updates and decompression can change the actual time. Missing transfer size stays unknown. Playtime-based story progress is a rough range, not measured completion: idle time, multiplayer and replays can make it wrong.

Playing and planning with friends

How do I choose a game I share with a friend?

Open Steam friends and select your friend. Games you all own shows confirmed shared co-op and multiplayer titles. Search or filter that grid and click a game to select it for planning, rather than opening its details. Selected games remain in the session tray when you choose Plan & invite.

What happens if the player limit is unknown?

A title remains selectable when its player cap is undocumented or open-ended. GTF does not label it infinite. Known limits are checked for the selected co-op or multiplayer mode, so a documented two-player mode cannot fit a larger crew. Check the game’s current mode and server settings before planning a large group.

Can I change my reply or delete old plans?

Yes. Can’t make it and Start without me are replies, not cancellations; the plan stays editable on the website and companion. Only the host’s Cancel plan cancels it for the group. All plans lets you delete a completed or cancelled session from your own history, or clear that history. Other participants keep their plans.

Can we plan more than one game?

Yes. Select up to five games for one session lineup, then choose a date and one total session window. The window applies to the whole session, not separately to every game. You can also ask for one random game from a fitting shortlist.

What does Find games for us do?

It returns to the session picker with your group selected and Steam Store included. Fitting co-op or multiplayer games can include titles only one person owns or games new to everyone. Check the ownership labels and Steam prices together before buying.

Can I minimise or restart library curation?

Use Minimise on Make your library fit your time to collapse it; this choice is remembered on this device. Reset my curation asks you to confirm before clearing this account’s curated view and personal game reviews on the device. Curate library then rebuilds profiles with the current shared source data and refreshes stale facts. Your Steam library and metadata shared with other users are kept.

Does GTF send Steam messages or create game lobbies?

GTF prepares a friendly invitation and opens Steam chat; you paste and send it yourself. Steam sign-in does not grant chat-send or arbitrary game-lobby permissions. Accepting a GTF invitation plans the time; use Steam or the game to organise the actual lobby.

How do invitations, time zones and replies work?

Choose friends, compatible games, a date and one session window, then confirm. Invite everyone on Steam prepares the message and, with the connected companion, opens each friend’s chat so you can paste and send. Invited friends choose I’m ready, I may be late, Start without me or Can’t make it for the planned window. GTF shows a checkmark when the whole crew is ready; sound depends on browser or companion reminder permission. The link shows the same instant in each person’s local time zone. Localhost test links work only on a computer that can reach that testing server.

Windows companion and support

Which features need GTF Companion?

Installed-game checks, local game-process detection, automatic observed play history, tray timers and native preparation/session reminders need the Windows companion. Browsing, Steam sign-in, library matching and planning work on the website. Native planning changes need the connected, signed-in website open to save them.

How do I connect it and start a game?

Install and open GTF Companion, then allow the website’s local-network connection if your browser asks. GTF shows the connection status. With automatic companion launch enabled, Play now requests Steam and the companion together. Timing waits for a detected process in the game’s installation folder; clicking Play alone is not recorded as playtime.

Why do reminders not appear while gaming?

GTF Companion uses one custom reminder card, rather than a Windows notification banner. Gentle mode appears at the bottom right without taking focus. Strict check-in is optional and off by default; it centres the card and takes focus, which can interrupt game controls. The gentle card follows the active monitor. Exclusive fullscreen games can hide desktop windows: use Borderless or Windowed fullscreen and test a reminder before relying on it. Windows priority-notification settings alone cannot solve an exclusive-display limitation.

How do extending and finishing a session work?

An original window of 5–15 minutes adds 5 minutes, a window over 15 through 30 minutes adds 10, and longer windows add 15. Repeated extensions retain that original increment and show the count and added time. Finishing a detected-game session reminds you to save and stop every two minutes until the process ends or you stop reminders. GTF never closes the game.

What does the activity heatmap record?

It records intervals when the companion observes a process in a Steam game’s installation folder. Menus and pauses may count. Unobserved gaps, sleep and previewing do not. History is local to this computer; it does not reconstruct Steam lifetime playtime or measure active input.

How do I contact GTF or clear my data?

Email info@gamesthatfit.com with a description of the problem and your browser or companion version. Do not send passwords or API keys. The Privacy page lets you export or clear browser preferences. Companion settings let you clear local history and settings. Signing out does not delete your Steam account or erase all device preferences.
